Sant’Angelo is a little-known, beautiful, unique, and magical corner of the island of Ischia. It is a village dating back to around 1400 that has preserved its very special geographical position between small hills, the sea, beaches, and a strip of land that connects the main square of Sant’Angelo to a small hill called la torre.
It was originally a village of fishermen and farmers. From the village square, even in ancient times, the finest local wines were loaded onto ships to reach other towns.
Today, Sant’Angelo is a little gem that you discover by descending from the nearby villages of the island, skirting the sea toward this last Ischian village made of perched houses. A small road along the coast leads you to the square and then climbs into a beautiful, romantic walk towards the small church of San Michele, which descends to the famous Fumarole, revealing the imposing Maronti beach.
Holidays in Sant’Angelo are slow and full of experiences and beautiful moments. Without ever needing to use a car (which, in any case, is not allowed in the village), you’ll find within walking distance little bars, restaurants, beaches, small boats to explore the gulf, sea excursions and nature walks, thermal parks, spas, and fabulous shopping with unique artisan boutiques you won’t find anywhere else.
Pablo Neruda fled from Capri to find inspiration and tranquility right here in Sant’Angelo, as did painters and artists from all over the world.
I have known and lived in many countries around the world, but I chose Sant’Angelo because it is a true corner of paradise.
